Ars Poetica - by Lily

Lovender Bath

March 19th 2007 14:02

So much noise as the water
fills my tub
but i am ready

sweet almond oil and lavender
to nourish and scent

peeling off my cares and worries
they are a pile of clothes on the floor

i step in
and the slightly too hot water
bites at my calves

the heat beckons to immerse me
i don't hesitate, i need this

i kneel at first and lower my head
to feel the rising steam upon my face
stretching out my legs
i fall in

heat and scent
seeping into every pore
i am silky

i feel the water love me
and i think of God
and my beloveds

poetry arrives and i reply
as it oozes from me
no paper or pen to capture
sacred it floats above me

i breath in steam straight
from the surface

sighs are propelled from my lungs
and more sighs and more and more
they fill the room
and my heart is stilled

pushing my body down
i stay there for a while
for i like to hear my heart beat there
louder than i can hear above

it reminds me
that indeed i am alive
and that peace can be found

~Lily

....oh wow....from a whisper to
So much noise as the water
fills my tub

i hear you, completely
yes, very yes
i took note of all the sensations
in the immersion of emoceans
and only now as i tried to sleep
does my muse tap me on the shoulder
for the tumble..
bless her ~ smile

and you ...

thumps lol

This is wonderful. Our home doesn't have a bath, only a shower, which is why I take so many baths when I travel! It's a rare opportunity! Oh, how I miss the ability to slip into the all that is of an oil infused, steaming bath!

I just adore this... and I love the imagery of the hot water biting at your calves.

oh the google box changes, well seeing Who is God? in huge letters in the wee hours, had me going... geeez, i dunno? why, who wants to know? if i have to have an ad guys, something along the lines of the Body Shop would have been a bit more fitting, DONTCHYATHINK?
i'm not a domain blogger; why i have to have ads?

tuesday morning grumbly rant over; please go back to your seats.....

i'll be back Wendi...

Yeah, the first ad I saw there was for a dating service... but now that I'm back, I see the who is god ad. It is an eye-catcher, isn't it?

lol geesh Wendi, i have enough JW's (JayDubs) leaving me Watchtowers on my front doorstep. I've told them to go away, which reminds me of a story where one guy's wife answered the door in the buff, do i have to resort to such measures?

anywayz.... the poem ~ smile

the bath *siiiigh* .. because the words 'Lovender Bath' was whispered to me, i took great delight in noting all my senses when i had this particular bath, it was glorious for many reasons. The bath i tried to have a few days before was a disaster, i couldn't relax at all and felt too hot even though the water wasn't particularly hot, didn't even last 5 minutes. Having baths when i had breakdown(s) was a saving grace for me, really. Communing with peace and letting all the pieces go up in the steam, sometimes i felt like Ophelia, others, i was just me, truly i found missing pieces there.

I like the part about the hot water biting my calves too, sort of metaphorical for doubt, but that's just me.

I've read you speak of your baths at your friend's house, how she sets out rolled up stripey towels for you, her anticipated guest. How wonderful your friend is to do that for you. Little things, you know?

Signing off, paint pots winking, coffee in hand.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

What an incredible way of being in touch with your own body and then noticing its reactions to the water....

These lines popped out at me:

peeling off my cares and worries
they are a pile of clothes on the floor

I love that image....

After dripping in sweat all day, a bath seems very tempting right now... I might have to try the 'lovender' sometime... How long does the scent stay on the body for?
Currently reminicing of the days when I'd stay in there till I was old and wrinkly. Ha!

I noticed you took offence to my Monty Python style script.

I was just trying something new
Don't mind me
Do drop by sometime,

So evocative! Love the imagery here..

P.S.--I did answer the door in the buff to a couple of JWs..they never bothered me again! Likewise the magazine salesman, the tax assessor, Parcel Post...well, just kidding about the Parcel Post.

A bath used to be my fri night entertainment. No joke. I could stay in there for like four hours. Just take the radio, wine, and lock the door. Then I discovered making my own body scrubs, hair treatments and face masks, enter HOURS in the bathrom, setting up my own day spa!
2 issues now - We live in an old house. Bad plumbing. Not only does the hot water cut out before its full, it leaks RUST into the bath! I can fill it up with hot water - boiling it on the stove old style! But I find I set up my candles and go "aaah..." and then I cant sit still! I keep thinking about things that need doing, cant switch off....
But I love the stripping of woes, leaving them on the floor. My favourite part of the day is the shower, it means all the works done, its all finished, time to snuggle up clean and write and draw....I get pretty dirty throughout the day!

Havnt seen you in ages, saw your comment on 'stinkerbell' so thought Id come over and see whats new...
Kinda good this is still your newest. The other day too many physical injuries prompted the ardious filling of the bath...Running from one end of the house to the other with boiling pots...But it was worth it, relaxation, stillness, relief for sore muscles...Complete with floating lavendar blossoms...I thought of you.

Kleo.. all that hard work and for your wounds, you deserve a good soak, i hope someone helped you fill that tub... just glad you finally got to have one... how good are they???? divine..

i've been indulging in scents and creams and the like lately; i forgot how good it makes you feel...

thanks for your words here Kleo; i love how you said, 'floating lavender blossoms' .. the visual makes me want to get the tub swirling...

Dear Lily......
Beautiful....I have sat and read and re-read and my mind is full of peaceful imagery at this moment.....If I close my eyes...I can almost feel the steamy fragrant mist.......I loved this most of all.........
sighs are propelled from my lungs
and more sighs and more and more
they fill the room
and my heart is stilled
pushing my body down
i stay there for a while
for i like to hear my heart beat there
louder than i can hear above
it reminds me
that indeed i am alive
and that peace can be found

This made me think (funny that).....I avoid baths like the plague...and why? I guess it's the just being in the moment with myself that I have become so adept at avoiding...My showers are like a commando drill.....not relaxing....Anyhow thanks for sharing and maybe I'll think about taking the plunge and having a bath and hopefully the room will fill with sighs X

Miss Nomer,

I have a Masters degree in avoiding solace with myself... and showers are good for purging the night; to surrender, trust my 'whole' broken self to warm scented water that wants to love me, unconditionally?? ... no compare... Relaxation doesn't come easy at all, sometimes it takes a long time..

Your bath? not the kind of sighs we hoped for. I truly hope you get to have a true Lovender bath some day... they are little bays of sanity to me...
