off the cuff

what i've learned about poetry
is that its ok to open your heart
and bleed or purr or maybe
even construct text, i've learned
that poets are quite mad and that
this is our perfect right to speak
up and out and inside out
because the sea is polluted
and we live under a harsh sun
where souls are hurting and death
is armed and roams the streets
where lives are pushed to the edge
as pain hides in the shadows
where you'll never find a pearl
unless it was dropped by a
little old lady without her glasses
we can write til the day we die
if we don't look at the audience
and believe they can see
into our souls..................

I like your poem.
Reminds me of how cynical, untrusting, and deceptive we humans can be just to survive and be happy.
Overall, I think your poem means to me that poets have freedom to express in written words much easily than in spoken words.
I just studied some of William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge poetry for English and they were very interesting.
Cheers!

Very interesting poem *raises eyebrow* . . . I thought of all the souls pushed to the edge during the war and of a man finding a pearl in the trenches.. funny becuse you were aiming at a later generation?
That is perhaps the thing, each has its cynacism to contend with and I agree with the previus comment, the world has changed so far from beauty, that to me it looks like a war of a different type, but no less a war against beauty whichever way you look.
As always, your lovely words stirred deep feelings of empathy within.
I hope you are keeping warm petite.
