The Guests

They came in droves
all beady eyed and thirsty
fascinated by all the mirrors
and the noises that keep
them moving toward
anticipatory maximus
i'm glad we didn't
dust the paintings
down, it makes them
look especially important
i must say, the couch
in the foyer looks particularly
inviting today, like a smile
ready to warm some bones
we dally in the garden
chain daisies for crowning
we wait for them
to pour pour pour
and we are eager to see
their innards
